The Landscape

Most Youth Pitching Advice Is Built for the Wrong Age

The training that works for a 17-year-old chasing a college roster spot is the opposite of what works for a 10-year-old still learning how to move. Almost every well-meaning parent gets pushed in the same four directions.

High-School Training, Scaled Down

Velocity programs, pulldowns, and max-effort days handed to 11-year-olds. A 12-year-old's body is not a smaller version of a 17-year-old's.

Chasing Velocity Too Early

Pushing radar-gun numbers at this age trades a small short-term gain for a much larger long-term cost, usually paid in arm injuries at 14, 15, 16.

Year-Round Travel Ball

Sixty-game summers with no real off-season. Burnout, overuse injuries, and quitting by 14 all trace back to this pattern.

Breaking Pitches Before Mechanics

Adding a curveball to a delivery that already leaks just stacks stress on a young elbow. The pitch gets earned through mechanics, not granted by birthday.

About Your Coach

Why I Teach Young Pitchers Differently

I played college baseball at CCSU, with two conference championships, NEC All-Conference, and third all-time in innings pitched at the school. For a parent reading this, that resume is not the part that matters.

What matters is everything I learned after it about what protects a young arm and what does not. My own hard lessons came from injuries and surgeries that should never happen to anyone. I have now trained pitchers at every age from 8 through college, and what I do with a young pitcher is the program I wish someone had built for me at that age. No weighted balls. No max-effort days. No breaking pitches to a kid whose front side rips open at foot strike. Just patient, age-appropriate development, and pitches earned through mechanics.

My promise: I will never train your son the way I would train a college pitcher, because he does not need it yet. The job at this age is to protect the runway, build the foundation, and keep him in love with the game.

What Other Families Have Said

"At the Little League level, my son went from an above-average pitcher to a dominant one, culminating in a 13-strikeout, no-hit victory in his final start in the championship round and a spot as an All-Star starter. Brandon is teaching my son how to approach the game strategically. He is learning how to be a pitcher, not just how to throw pitches. I can't recommend Brandon highly enough."

Gennaro DeAngelis · Parent of 12 & Under Athlete

"The search for a baseball coach to work with our son is over. Brandon, or as we call him, the baseball doctor, has made all the difference. His knowledge and ability to connect with students is superb. We have noticed remarkable improvements in our son's skills over the last year, especially in pitching and hitting."

Adrianna & Jeff · Parent of 12 & Under Athlete

"Some former players know the game but struggle to teach young players. Some coaches work well with kids but are not as strong with instruction. Brandon excels in both. He builds tailored programs and, most importantly, knows how to work with young players to build trust, confidence, and motivation."

Ian · Parent of 12 & Under Athlete

"Brandon has helped me become a better player physically and mentally. He has helped me greatly improve my knowledge and my mechanics. I now know what pitch to throw in every situation and how to make the best pitch possible."
